Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing food production sectors in India with seafood export of 1.4 million MT, contributing significantly to foreign exchange revenue to the tune of US$ 6.7 billion in the year 2018–19. Intensification of shrimp farming resulted in increased production concurrently with increased incidence of diseases, which has become a major concern for enhancing production and increasing farmer’s income. In order to mitigate the diseases, aquaculturists resort to several inputs such as antibiotics, probiotics, immunostimulants, antimicrobial agents and other therapeutic products.
