ICAR-CIBA Training programme on “Recent advances in soil and water management in brackishwater aquaculture” 20th June 2017

A five-day hands-on training programme on “Recent advances in soil and water management in brackishwater aquaculture” being conducted by the Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division (AAHED) of ICAR – Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai was inaugurated on 20th June 2017.
Dr. N.K. Ambujam, Professor and Director, Centre for Water Resources, Anna University, inaugurated the training and in her address, she stressed on the importance of proper understanding on the farm environment, especially the soil and water, for sustainable brackishwater aquaculture and appreciated the good work carried out by ICAR-CIBA in diverse fields to support the farmers for achieving sustainable productivity, particularly the distribution of farm (Soil & Water) health card. She pointed out that ICAR-CIBA is now a recognized institute of Anna University to guide Ph.D. Students, which would ultimately foster partnership in research. The inaugural function was presided by Dr. C. Gopal, HOD, Crustacean Culture Division and Director in-charge. He highlighted the scientific expertise of CIBA over two decades, which is available for farmers and stake holders to use. Dr.S.V.Alavandi, HOD, Aquatic Animal Health and Environment Division gave an overview of the training programme and highlighted the importance having information on carrying capacity of brackishwater aquaculture and climate related issues. Dr.M.Muralidhar, Principal Scientist & Scientist in Charge, Environment Section, welcomed the participants and mentioned about the overwhelming response for this training program from various stakeholders. He mentioned that this hands on training programme have a comprehensive theory and practical on soil and water management in brackishwater aquaculture. 21 participants comprising of farmers, technicians, academicians, students and entrepreneurs interested in exploring aquaculture from Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
